Getting active, with or without Twin, is a gradual process. It’s OK if it doesn’t happen all at once, and it’s normal if you miss a few days here and there. Let’s walk through a few scenarios you might encounter.
First stop: Peloton
Whatever you're dealing with, Peloton likely has a dedicated Collection for your situation — check out our FAQ to see a helpful list. These cover everything from joint pain to limited mobility to stress to being a beginner.
If you don't yet have a free Peloton App One Membership via Twin, chat your coach.
How do I stay consistent and motivated?
Consistency is the key to success with activity, but it’s easier said than done. We recommend using the Twin app to your advantage — you can set a schedule that works for you from the You tab, tap the [...] button on an action card to edit your schedule, or chat your coach to ask for help.
If you’re exhausted or demotivated, remember that any movement is better than none. Try a mind and body session or some gentle yoga — these are great for lifting your mood and managing chronic fatigue. Be kind to yourself and listen to your body. When you have a few small wins, it gets easier to tackle larger goals.
If you’re using Peloton classes via your Twin Membership benefit, try a few different Peloton coaches out. You might be surprised how fun it can be!
How do I find the time to get active?
We get it — our lives are complicated, and unexpected obligations can show up at any time. The most important thing is to start small and build healthy habits from there. Even 5 minutes at a time counts! Your coach can share tips with you on how to turn everyday tasks into positive habits — like washing the dishes by hand, circling the block after dinner, or doing a few squats during commercial breaks.
If you’re using Peloton classes via your Twin Membership benefit, you can filter by duration in the Class tab in the Peloton App to find extra-short classes.
What if I hurt myself?
If you get injured, please let your personal doctor know and get their clearance to continue with activity. Sometimes the best idea is to wait and recover so that you don’t injure yourself further.
If you feel sore after working out, especially if you’re new at it or if you’re having trouble keeping proper form, you should rest. On the other hand, “active recovery” could also help — gentle exercises or walking can increase blood flow and help you heal faster. Remember to listen to your body.
What if I have surgery?
Always ask your personal doctor know and get their clearance to continue with activity after you have surgery, especially if you feel pain. Sometimes the best idea is to wait and recover so that you don’t injure yourself further.
Once you do start working out, stop immediately if you feel any of the following:
- Sharp or stabbing pain: this could mean problems with your bones or nerves
- Pain over level 5 out of 10: listen to your body
- New swelling or heat: too much pressure on tissue that's still healing
- Pain after 2 hours of finishing: if extra pain doesn't go away a little while after finishing exercise, you overdid it
If you have redness at the incision, sudden numbness, or pain in your calf, seek urgent medical help right away.
Can I do exercises from a chair?
Yes — using a chair can be a safer option for seniors, desk workers, or folks recovering from an injury. They can build functional strength, mobility, and heart health without straining the body too much.
If you were injured or underwent surgery, always get your personal doctor's clearance first before attempting any chair exercises.
Here are a few chair exercises you can try:
- Seated leg extensions or sit-to-stands: these work your lower-body muscles
- Rhythmic movement like seated marches: these improve heart health markers like circulation and stamina
- Sitting upright without back support: these engage your core, stabilize your spine, and improve posture
What if I miss an activity or Peloton class?
Don’t worry! That’s normal, and neither your coach nor your Twin will ever judge you. We all get sick, go on vacation, or need to step away from time to time. Getting back on track is as easy as tapping your next activity action card and following along.
If you’re traveling or on vacation, you can still get small workouts in! You can use your Peloton app and search for walks or bodyweight exercises — these are possible even in hotel rooms.
If you’re going to be away for an extended period and need to pause your Twin program and CGM shipments:
